Frequently AskeD questions
The big one: Is my child ready for potty training?
Is she between 22 months and just under 5 years old? Does she exhibit interest in using the toilet? Has she already gone pee on the potty either on her own or with prompting? Does her preschool or daycare require daytime potty training to either “level up” to the next class or to enroll? If the answer to these questions is “yes,” then she is indeed ready to begin the process of potty training.
Does The Potty Nanny imply that someone is going to come to my home?
Upon request, yes, if you happen to live in/around Charlotte, NC. The Potty Nanny provides consultations to parents primarily via phone, email and Zoom. We help parents figure out how best to approach potty training their children and to troubleshoot when there are sticky spots - sometimes literal ones.
What materials are required for potty training using The Potty Nanny’s “Oh Crap” methodology?
Potty training requires commitment. This cannot be overstated. Parents must be willing to devote the entirety of 3-4, but preferably 5-7, to even 10 full days to having their children stay at home - going absolutely nowhere outside of the house beyond the mailbox - and for their child/children to remain undressed. After this stage potty training requires old-fashioned underwear, ideally boxer briefs and at least one child toilet/toilet stairs and lots and lots of patience.
Is daytime potty training the same as nighttime potty training?
No. They require use of different parts of the brain. At night children are unconscious and asleep. A child must be capable of getting himself up in the middle of the night, which requires sleeping in a bed, not a crib and getting himself back to sleep in order to be potty trained at night.
My child is over the age of 5. Will The Potty Nanny work with me?
Yes, if your child is in 1st Grade or below and is still in need of help, we will work with you, barring any severe developmental or physical special needs.
My child has special needs. Does The Potty Nanny work with children like mine?
